Business experience is about making mistakes. I know that I have made far more than my fair share of mistakes, but as the years go by I am getting a little smarter and learning from my mistakes rather than repeating them.
There wouldn’t be a lot of successful entrepreneurs out there who could say that they have a mistake free background. In fact I would be impressed to meet one. We all make mistakes and we all will continue to make mistakes – the trick is to learn your lesson and move on.
If you make a business mistake and it costs you money – there is no doubt that it will stay in your mind for a long time to come and that is not a bad thing. There is no point crucifying yourself over a mistake, after all, even the most experienced and high profile entrepreneurs end up in the papers explaining where they went wrong. Punishing yourself more than necessary is not only non productive it can also shake your confidence and increase your chances of making more mistakes.
The art of letting go is often easier said than done but it is a skill that will be very beneficial to your business life. Accept that we all make mistakes, learn a lesson, move on and try your hardest not to make the same mistake again.

I made a business mistake yesterday and almost make me want to give up. Thanks for your blog, i no longer feel “how could i be that stupid?!?”. Everybody made mistake, learn from the lesson, and move on. =)))
Hi Novie – I have made just about every mistake you can possibly make in business, and survived and grown stronger from them. I look at the mistakes I make as the price I pay for my “business university”. Learn from your mistakes but don’t regret them or beat yourself up over them.
