What exactly is BRANDING and how do you do it?

This is a very big question. I think many people, including some professional marketing people, have very little idea as to what branding actually means. The following presentation is the most simple, logical and easy to understand explanation that I have seen so far. It is as appropriate for small businesses as it is for large corporations and it not only covers what branding is and why it is so important, but also where most organisations get it wrong. This branding presentation was developed by Marty Neumeier.

    is Branding the same concept as positioning?
    im not an expert on positioning but from what i have heard branding sounds very similar.

  2. Hello Mr Wingman – to me it really isn’t the same concept. Positioning is figuring out who you target market is and where you fit into the overall scheme of things with competitor. For example are you budget or high end? Branding is really how you take that message to your target market. For example if your target market and positioning was all about small business you would want to build a brand that was appealing to small business. So the two work hand in hand. I hope this helps.
