Well if you have been living under a rock for the last 9 months you may have missed the news that 2009 is the Year of the Blood Donor. I have been fortunate enough to be a donor for over 20 years and I strongly urge everyone who reads my BLOG to take an hour out and head down to your local BLOOD DONOR CLINIC.

Lots of people are worried about the needle – but believe me, I am a big woosy and I can deal with it. Plus, at the end of the donation you get as many great snacks as you want – all delivered with beautiful enthusiasm by one of the incredible volunteers.

Now if the snacks don’t get you –  spend a few minutes exploring the official RED CROSS DONATE BLOOD site and you will see that there really are many, many, many good reasons to give up a bit of the precious fluid.

Sadly only about in 1 in 50 people will donate blood. Of course donating is a conscious decision – but receiving blood is less discerning. Knowing that your blood products can help a three year old little girl overcome cancer is pretty much all the prompting any of us should need.

OK – I don’t mean to be preachy, but please donate today. Grab a friend whilst you are at. If you do donate, do me a favour and come back to this post and tell me about your experience. I really appreciate it and so will the people who get your blood.

You can make a BIG difference.

Inspiration comes in all shapes and sizes and from the most unlikely of places.

Late last night I happened to be watching some inspirational television, Miami Ink – for anyone who doesn’t know the show it is about a Tatoo Parlor in, you guessed it – Miami. I was interested to see a man getting a tatoo of his son who was killed in a freak accident a few years back. Clearly he was very emotional, but he said something which I think needs to be shared. He said -

“We all have hard things thrown our way in life, it’s up to us to either get bitter or get better.”

Powerful words. How many of us get better when faced with adversity? Or even more importantly how many of us get bitter? We really do have the choice and this applies to every challenge that comes our way.

Who would have thought a tatoo show would have provided such exceptional words of wisdom? Inspiration is everywhere if you choose to look.
