ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING.

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

You determine your attitude.
You can respond positively or negatively to any situation.
Your attitude is not determined by circumstances,
but by how you respond to your circumstances.

Any challenge facing you is not as important as your attitude
towards it, for that will determine your success or failure.

It’s how you react to events, not the events themselves,
that determines your attitude.

Valuing the moment

“… the only time you ever have in which to learn anything or see anything or feel anything, or express any feeling or emotion, or respond to an event, or grow, or heal, is this moment, because this is the only moment any of us ever gets. You’re only here now; you’re only alive in this moment.”

– Jon Kabat-Zinn

Many people regularly squander their time. They live under the assumption that they’ll live forever. As a result, they don’t value the present as a precious opportunity that will never come again.

Others continually race against time, trying to cram too many activities into each hour, and suffering stress in the process.

In our view, we are more effective and most happy when we balance being and doing. We continually ask ourselves what’s most important to get done. And we’re learning to BE — fully present — when we do. We also regularly give ourselves permission to relax.

Make today really matter. It’s all you’ll ever have.

“Very few of us know how much we can put into life if we use it properly, wisely, and economically. Let us economize our time — lifetimes ebb away before we wake up, and that is why we do not realize the value of the immortal time God has given us.”

– Paramahansa Yogananda

YOU CAN RISE ABOVE REALITY.

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Courage is the power to face your difficulties.
It comes from the reserves of your mind that are more powerful
then any of your outside circumstances.

When you recognize that you are bigger than your problems,
you gain the courage necessary to overcome anything.

Your obstacles will look large or small to you according to
whether you are large or small.
Courage is the capacity to confront what can be imagined.
It gives you the ability to rise above reality.

You are more important than any of your problems.

Be involved in the community where you do business

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

First and foremost we have to start at the beginning and that simply means get involved. Every community has a host of organizations where people give their time freely to get behind good causes that need some help. They may be charities, they may be environmental groups, they may be groups trying to improve conditions for particular members of the community. The choice is up to you – if you have a particular passion, use it to get involved.

Who has the spare time to get involved in community based groups? Generally none of us but typically the people I meet who are doing the most in their community are the busiest ones of all. They run their own businesses, manage their families, try to find time for themselves and yet they still get involved. Why – because it makes them feel good?

If you can’t find the time to get involved yourself, support community groups with products or services that your business offers. Donate money to them or let them use your facilities to help raise money.

I choose two or three special events to offer my firms services to free of charge every year. This means that at any one time we will have a project that we are working on that is community based. I am happy to cover the cost of this and my staff get behind it as well. We all feel great and to be honest the events have a greater chance of succeeding if they have access to professional event management and fundraising advice.

Whatever level of involvement you can offer, embrace the community where you live and run your business and play an active roll in making it a better place for everyone living there.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TODAY? How involved are you in your community? A lot or not at all? If you are involved a lot – you can sit this one out, you deserve the break. If your not involved at all today is the day to get involved. Talk to your staff about what you would like to do and ask for their suggestions on how you could get more involved in your community. It might be something as simple as sponsoring a junior sporting team or it might be ambitious like raising a pile of money to build a facility for disabled people.

YOU CAN MAKE IT IF YOU TRY

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

You can’t be beaten at anything, until you quit in your own mind.
There is no failure except in your not trying.
There is no defeat except from within.

You have no really insurmountable barrier except
your own inherent weakness of purpose.
The odds are with you if you keep on trying.

Consider yourself on a very long journey.
Sustain your personal vision of success until you achieve it.
In the end, you can fail only if you don’t try.

Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to is.
Success is a road that’s paved with perseverance.
