Give Generously to the Red Shield Appeal – 2010

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

This weekend is the official Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. The fundraising event aims to raise almost $10 million Australia wide. People will be door knocking, setting up stalls in shopping centres and rattling the tin at events.

The Salvation Army makes a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around Australia and they need our help. So please give generously.

I will be at the Edge Hill Shops in Cairns collecting money today. If you are close by, drop in and say hello. If you are out and about anywhere else in the country and you see Red Shield Fundraiser, or if one comes knocking on your door, please do what you can to help them. You never know, one day you might be the one in need.

Thanks,
Andrew

RUOK?

RUOK?

Well this Sunday November 29, is RUOK? Day, and what a day it is. I did a seminar in Cairns on Wednesday night that many of you may have attended and I spoke about RUOK and RUOK Day. It is a not for profit organisation promoting the need to reach out and ask those around us if they are OK and I hope that today you will.

Many of us have been touched by suicide in some way or another. I know just how powerful it is and the impact it can have on so many lives. I also know that there is often a lot of guilt associated with people after someone has suicided because they didn’t reach out. It is really hard to know what is going on inside someone else’s head, but don’t leave it to chance. We need to reach out and ask even the strongest appearing of people if they are OK? Do they need someone to talk to?

Can I ask that everyone who reads this post to reach and ask someone that you may be worried about, if they are OK? Imagine if we can save one life today? Maybe through six degrees of separation we may save thousands of lives.

Business is so about so much more than profit and loss. There is an incredible human aspect that sometimes gets lost. There are a lot of small business owners out there doing it tough around the world. Please let them know that they are appreciated and that they are far more important than their business to those who love them.

Please pass this message on and take a moment to visit RUOK.org. Most importantly please reach out and ask with absolute sincerity – RUOK?

And even though November 29th is National RUOK day – I think we should make it something we should ask others every day.

StarJam.org – truly spectacular people.

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Every day I seem to encounter truly spectacular people who are hell bent on making the world a better place. Here is a group that I am proud to be associated with – Star Jam. I first saw this interview with Jono via MindFood Magazine – and the more I learnt, the more I realised that this was a very special organisation. We need to support groups like Star Jam – because they are the very essence of humanity.

And one more……seen by 13 million people on You Tube so far.
