These days having a powerful tag line or slogan for our business is considered standard practise and rightly so. A tag line is a statement that offers a promise, a vision or a point of difference – sometimes all three. Some of the ones most often quoted are Nike – Just Do It, Apple – Think Different and going back a few years, American Express – Don’t leave home without it. All good stuff. But my question is do you have your own personal tag line?
What exactly do I mean by this? This came out of a conversation I was having with a coaching client recently, where we were discussing tag lines for her business. I happened to ask her what her own tag line for life was, an unusual question I know, but she thought for a moment and then said “to live a fulfilled life”. This may sound simple, and it is, but wow, it is also extremely powerful.
I believe that having our own personal tag line gives us the statement to direct and influence our decisions, how we act, how we treat others and how we make sure we live with integrity.
Now I also think that over time our personal tag line can change. It does depend on what is happening in your life at any one particular time. Over the years I have certainly had a few – all of which were very much dependent on what was happening in my life and my business. Some have been:
- Live fearlessly
- Do less, do better
- Say no gracefully
- Make every day significant
- Appreciate the moments
I am sure there are people will think this is a bit “khum bay ya”, but I have found that having my own personal tag line, that I keep to myself I might add, has been and continues to be a powerful guiding principle in my life.
So what is your personal tag line?
Cheers,
Andrew
Wow Andrew this has come up at such a good time while I’m already in super thought mode about my brand.
I love your ‘Make every day significant’ line.
Be interesting, be amazing. Maybe that will be mine for 2014.
Thanks Nicky – it is the season to be deep and meaningful really isn’t it? Good luck with your 2014 Kick Ass Tag Line! And you are most welcome to use “Make every day significant” – it is a doozy and it is so easy to get lost in the madness of day to day business. Thanks for the share – Andrew
