The fifth annual RUOK?Day aims to inspire meaningful conversations across the country to help reduce suicide in Australia; the leading cause of death for people aged between 15 and 44 years. RUOK? Foundation CEO Janina Nearn said that RUOK?Day is a reminder to regularly ask ‘are you ok?’ of family and friends who might be going through a tough time.
‘Suicide prevention is a complex issue and many people find it intimidating. By taking a positive approach, we hope to show people that meaningful conversations can make a difference to how someone is feeling,’ Janina said. ‘By encouraging more people to ask the question, we aim to build a society where everyone feels they belong and are protected from suicide.’
