The professional presentation world is a tough one. There are a lot more presenters than there are events and for many people making a living in this space is an ongoing challenge. Of course the real key is to stand out from the crowd so that you get noticed by the event planners and then make sure you have the right leverage and credibility to get the job. Sometimes this calls for unorthodox or perhaps a more apt term, innovative methods.
When it comes to show reels (this is the weapon of choice in the professional presenters arsenal), they are all typically the same. Shots of the presenter talking to an audience, who are all laughing, clapping and having a thoroughly wonderful time. The video ends with short video clips of happy customers leaving the event, saying how wonderful it was. The exact same type of video that I have produced many times.
But I realised that I needed a bigger stick to get noticed and to stand out from the crowd, so I teamed up with some very shrewd NZ talent, AnimationWRX to create my new promotional video and the response with the launch so far has been amazing.
But does it convert to bookings?
I received my first booking within 5 minutes of sending it out to a selected group of event planners. The value of the booking was twice the cost of developing the film, so yes, it most certainly does convert to bookings and with another 6 potential jobs, in 2 days worth of promotion, that translates to a 15 times return on investment. Would I have got the same result if I had just launched another typical speakers promo video? I doubt it very much.
The moral to the story is simple – to get noticed, to stand out from the crowd and to stay one step ahead of your competitors, you need to be bold. Now it might not always work, but from my experience, more often than not it most certainly will.
So check out my new promotional video, if you want to see it bigger and bolder, click on the You Tube link, turn up the volume and enjoy.
