Just how important is small business in Australia?

Small business really is big business in Australia (and in every country around the world). But just how big is the market in Australia? Here are a couple of interesting figures that have recently come across my desk:

1. Currently there are about 1.9 million small businesses in Australia.

2. Collectively they employ about 3.6 million and support many millions more.

3. The total capital value of these businesses combined is in the vicinity of $4.3 Trillion (now that is a lot of zero’s).

4. This value is 4 times that of the Australian Stock Exchange.

So next time we think we are only a small business, take a moment to remember that we are part of a much larger group. Small biz really has grown to become big biz in Australia and around the world. Now imagine what we could achieve if we united, formed a political party and decided to make the world a better place.
