Some good advice for aspiring authors…

Whatever you may think about the Harry Potter series, there is no doubt at all that JK Rowling is one of the most financially successful authors of all time. Here is a presentation done by  JK Rowling at Harvard. As an author myself, she is certainly an inspiration to me. JK Rowling is someone who really has shown the importance of perseverance to all aspiring authors – and to anyone who wants to achieve anything in life. Her talk is honest, humble and sincere. Thank you.

  1. Jean Burman says:

Inspirational… funny sad intelligent and entirely wonderful! A credit to her gender… and a spectacular human being. There should be more like her.

  2. TK Turner says:

    “A credit to her gender?!”

Do you realize how extraordinarily SEXIST a remark like that is?

    How insulting!

  3. Who said she was a credit to her gender TK?

  4. Jean Burman says:

But TK… she IS undeniably a woman… and she IS undeniably successful… [grin]

Why NOT then… a credit (and an inspiration) to her gender… and indeed to human beings everywhere?

As a fellow female person (oops… perhaps I shouldn’t say “fellow”) Let me rephrase that.

As a “woman” myself… especially having faced occasional hardship and the raising of children… I believe it is an especial achievement for JK to have achieved as much as a woman in poverty with a baby in her arms.

Show me a man with half the success who has singlehandedly done likewise…

[Don’t get me wrong… I love men. They are some of my favourite people!]

  5. Wonderfully and wickedly put Jean. Just what I would expect from you!!!

  6. Book Reviews says:

That rss page on your website here is magnificent, you should tell more folks about it in your next post. I haven’t noticed it a first, now I’m using it every morning to check on any updates. I’m on a rattling slow dial-up link in Germany and it’s rather daunting to sit there and wait for such a long time ’til the page loads… but hey, I just found your rss page and added it to the Google Reader and voil? – I’m always up-to-date! Well pal, keep up the good work and make that rss button a little bigger so that other people can enjoy that as well 😛
